Knowledge gives us strength to do the things that need to be done. Grandparents raising their grandchildren and other relatives raising children in their extended family often find themselves scanning the internet for anyone who can help with a specific problem or idea. There are so many resources available. Following is just a sample of a few sites you may want to explore:


www.aarp.org  American Association of Retired Persons, AARP. Study the site for grandparent issues especially Direct Links: This online source allows visitors to find the application form for a specific service. This source is valuable not only to individual families but also to agencies and organizations who are assisting caregivers. www.cwla.org Child Welfare League of America, CWLA, members from child welfare agencies nationwide provides top notch information on all child welfare issues through print media, conference and the blogtalk radio show, Online with CWLA. We will publish show topics periodically in the Kinship Care Notes on this website.

www.ncwa.org National Indian Child Welfare Association can connect inquiries to local areas for assistance regarding children of American Indian tribal affiliation.

www.ssa.gov Social Security Administration is a very important site for kinship families with questions about benefits to children, adoption, incarcerated parents and other issues.

 
www.aecf.org Anne E. Casey Foundation - Excellent research on related issues to kinship care, plus grant support, and support for States’ Kids Count data.


www.brookdalefountation.org The Brookdale Foundation staff are the Kinship Care experts in establishing local resource centers with grants.


www.childrensdefense.org A prime lobbying and research organization for children, The Children's Defense Fund.


www.grandfamiliesofamerica.org An excellent site by and for grandfamilies with online newsletter and lots of links to other resources, Grandfamilies of America.

 

www.grandparentsforchildren.org  the website of the National Committee of Grandparents for Children’s Rights, a strong advocate group for all aspects of grandparents working for children. The newsletter Grand Voice can also be found on the website. 

 

 http://datacenter.kidscount.org  Kids Count Datacenter . A great deal of research information is available. Kids Count is a gift of the Ann E. Casey Foundation, www.casey.org
   
www.abanet.org American Bar Association, explore the site for kinship care issues and lawyer contacts, especially the Kinship Care Legal Resource Center at www.grandfamilies.org . This is the wonderful collaborative site for updates on legal issues. As current as possible, this valuable resource is sponsored by Casey Family Programs, American Bar Association’s Center on Children & the Law, and Generations United. 
 

www.gu.org Generations United is one of those organizations that does many things within the mission and keeps excellent contact with the interested public. One of the key issues for Generations United is kinship families. An excellent newsletter with grant resources and legislative updates.
